His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), attended the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games to support the national contingent, where national swimmer Hayley Wong Ann Yue delivered a record-breaking performance in the women’s 50-metre butterfly.
Wong set a new national record after clocking 28.99 seconds, marking another milestone for Brunei Darussalam’s swimming programme at the multi-sport event.
His Royal Highness’s presence underscored continued commitment to the development of sport in Brunei Darussalam and served as a source of encouragement and motivation for the national contingent competing on international stage.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness attended the official opening ceremony of the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 23. The ceremony featured vibrant performances celebrating Scotland’s rich culture, heritage and national identity, while highlighting the values of unity, friendship and sportsmanship shared among Commonwealth nations.
The Brunei Darussalam contingent also took part in the traditional parade of nations alongside athletes from other participating countries, marking the official commencement of the Games. – James Kon
