His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC), yesterday visited Brunei’s athletes at their respective accommodations ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
During the visit, His Royal Highness conveyed words of encouragement and support to the athletes as they prepare to represent the country at the international sporting event.
Brunei Darussalam will send a 12-member contingent, comprising six athletes, including three female competitors, to participate in three sporting events – athletics, swimming and weightlifting – at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Leading the Brunei contingent as Chef de Mission is Pengiran Siti Amal Jariah binti Pengiran Haji Matjinen.
National swimmer Joel Ling Thai Yu will compete in the men’s 100-metre freestyle, 100-metre breaststroke and 200-metre breaststroke events.
Meanwhile, Hayley Wong Ann Yue will represent Brunei in the women’s 50-metre freestyle, 100-metre freestyle and 50-metre butterfly events, while Sharmeen binti Mohammad Marvin will compete in the women’s 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre breaststroke and 100-metre breaststroke events.
In athletics, Muhd Nazul Putera Faeiz Firdaous will take part in the men’s 100-metre event, while Nur Syafiqah binti Abdullah Muhammad Mukhlis will compete in the women’s 100-metre event.
National weightlifter Mohammad Nashrul bin Haji Abu Bakar will represent Brunei in the men’s under-65 kilogramme category. – James Kon
