The Brunei Darussalam wushu team delivered an impressive performance on the opening day of the Oceania International Wushu Championship in Brisbane, Australia yesterday, securing two gold and four silver medals.
In the Junior Women’s Taijiquan event, Brunei’s Meagan Marie Keasberry clinched the gold medal with a score of 8.90. New Zealand took silver with 8.655, while India claimed bronze with 8.62.
Brunei’s second gold came in the Youth Women’s Taijiquan event, where Emilia Chua Yee Qing produced a superb performance to top the podium with 8.925. Fellow Bruneian Lauren Emily Chua Yu Qing added to the tally by securing silver with 8.775.
In the Junior Men’s Changquan event, Brunei’s Qayden Yii Ming Yi claimed silver after scoring 8.405. New Zealand won gold with 8.60, while Australia settled for bronze with 8.29.
Brunei also earned silver in the Senior Men’s Nanquan event through Adi Salihin, who posted an outstanding score of 9.725. China took gold with 9.755, while Singapore finished with bronze on 9.065.
Meanwhile, Basma Lachkar secured another silver medal for Brunei in the Senior Women’s Taijiquan after recording 9.715. China edged the gold with 9.73, while Malaysia took bronze with 9.710.
The coach of the Brunei wushu team said the athletes performed to their full potential on the competition floor, maintained strong discipline throughout the event, and received praise from the organising committee.
The coach also expressed great satisfaction with the athletes’ performances and pride in their achievements, while also thanking the government for their support. – JAMES KON
