His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council reminded national athletes heading to Cambodia for the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) that they are competing for the glory of the nation and to demonstrate undying fighting spirit until the end of the competition.

His Royal Highness said selection for participation is not the end of their accomplishments.

“The true objective of heading to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, is not for holiday. It is to carry out the trust that has been given… to bring glory to the country.”

“This trust should be received as a challenge. Therefore, do not just compete without paying attention to our main goal, which is to bring glory to the country by obtaining medals. The triumph will not only bring glory to the country but also to the name of the winner and their family.

“Each victory will not once have the mention of the Youth and Sports Department, or the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports or even the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council. So be proud of any upcoming achievement.”

His Royal Highness, meanwhile, warned the secretariat officer, manager and coaches that they must carry out their duties, including maintaining the well-being of national athletes.

“I do not want to see issues from the previous SEA Games repeated, where some managers and coaches were late to the venue of the competition, as reported in the previous post-mortem meeting,” said His Royal Highness.

“To the contingent, I would like to remind the contingent to always be careful and look after oneself and food intake while there.

“Ensure your safety and always comply the organiser’s regulations and maintain the good name of the country because during the SEA Games, you are Brunei Darussalam’s sport ambassadors,” said His Royal Highness.
