Brunei Darussalam national swimmers Muhammad Isa bin Ahmad and Christian Nikles will be looking to record new personal best times in the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Muhammad Isa will take part in the 50m and the 100m breaststroke events while Christian will take his place in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.

The world championship will be Muhammad Isa’s second major tournament this year following his participation in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 last summer.

The national swimmer will begin his campaign today (Dec 16) in lane six in the heats round of the men’s 100m breaststroke event.

According to the International Swimming Federation (FINA), Muhammad Isa currently holds the national short course record for the men’s 50m breaststroke and the 100m breaststroke events with times of 29.65s and 1:04.45s respectively.

Both records were set during the previous edition of the 25m World Swimming Championships in Hangzhou, China in 2018.

Earlier this month, both Muhammad Isa and Christian – accompanied by national coach Wu Na – were in Dubai to finalise their preparations ahead of the world meet.

The prestigious six-day competition gathers the best swimmers in the globe including a number of Tokyo Olympics 2020 medallists.

The FINA World Championships is viewed as the second global sporting event this month having hosted the season-ending Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last weekend.
