Brunei Darussalam on Sunday collected its second silver medal at the 33rd SEA Games after female wushu athlete Basma Lachkar finished the Taijiquan with Taijijian all-round event.

Basma scored 9.766 in the Taijiquan category and 9.766 in the Taijijian category to claim the silver medal. The Philippines’ Wong Agatha Chrystenzen snatched the gold medal and the bronze medal went to Chin Sydney Sy Xuan of Malaysia.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, SEA Games Federation Honorary Life President and President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council witnessed the competition and presented the medals.

National wushu coach Li Hui commented, “This is truly exhilarating news. After two days of intense competition, the athletes’ relentless effort and superb skills have been rewarded in the best possible way. On the competition floor of Taijiquan and Taijijian, behind the grace of softness blended with strength and the flowing, cloud-like movements lie countless days and nights of perseverance and refinement.”

He added, “Please give the warmest round of applause to our Brunei wushu women’s athlete, Basma, and her coach, Zhao Chunjie. Every opening stance, every turn, and every movement they presented on the competition floor carried the honour of the nation and their personal dreams. This achievement belongs to them, and also to all those who supported them behind the scene.” – JAMES KON
