His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, SEA Games Federation Honorary Life President and President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, attended the Brunei karate team competition at the 33rd SEA Games in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.
In the preliminary round of the women’s team kata pool 1, the Brunei team, comprising Farhah Syahirah Md Shamrin, Rodhyatul Adhwana Bakar and Farhana Najeeha Abd Rahman, was disqualified in their match against Malaysia.
Meanwhile, in the men’s team kata pool 1, the Brunei team of Farhin ‘Idlan Mohamad Shamrin, Muhammad Iqbal Asnan and Muhd Syahmi Zafran Bakar lost 21.7-23.1 to Malaysia, moving on to the repechage stage.
In the Tatami 2 Bronze Medal Match of the repechage stage, Brunei was defeated by Vietnam 22.3-23.2. In sepak takraw, the Brunei team fell 2-1 to Indonesia in the regu team event.
Brunei taekwondo athlete Muhammad Abrar Wa’ie bin Haji Bakar @Muhammad Bisyukri did not advance to the semi-final of the men’s 54 kilogramme kyorugi category after a 0-2 loss to Singapore.
His Royal Highness also visited the wushu competition venue and Brunei’s training ground to oversee the welfare of Brunei athletes. – James Kon
