His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, SEA Games Federation Honorary Life President and President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) was conferred the SEA Games Federation Order of the Golden Rings Award during the SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) Council Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand on Monday, the highest honour bestowed by the SEAGF.
The Order of the Golden Rings was awarded to His Royal Highness in recognition of His Royal Highness’ long-standing contributions and dedicated involvement in advancing sports within the SEAGF. His Royal Highness was also the recipient of the Olympic Order Silver Award in 1999.
The conferment of the Order of the Golden Rings Award serves as a tribute to His Royal Highness’ devoted service, exemplary leadership, and steadfast commitment as Honorary Life President of the SEA Games Federation.
The honour also strengthens the standing of Brunei Darussalam and the BDNOC as valued and significant members of the SEAGF, upholding the spirit of friendship, respect, and solidarity that forms the foundation of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).
His Royal Highness also attended the team welcoming ceremony for the 33rd SEA Games at Indoor Stadium Huamark.
It began with a flag-hoisting ceremony, beginning with the national flags of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, and the host country, Thailand.
Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand Dr Meechai Inwood was present.
The ceremony was attended by 23 members of the Brunei Darussalam contingent, including athletes in karate and taekwondo, as well as officers and coaches.
Chef de Mission Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim led the contingent. – James Kon
