His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, Olympic Council of Asia Honorary Executive Board Member and President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, yesterday joined 500 participants in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 20th Asian Games Fun Run, which took place in the vicinity of the Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Brunei.
Joining His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah was His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein, Chair of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Gender Equity Commission and OCA Chair of the Peace and Sport Standing Committee.
Other participants included Executive Board Member of the OCA Mikako Kotani and OCA Gender Equity Committee Chair Valerie Tarazi, along with participants from all walks of life.
Mikako Kotani and Director of Media and Public Relations for the Aichi-Nagoya 20th Asian Games Organising Committee Inomata Yusuhiro delivered separate speeches welcoming the participants to the fun run.
Following the warm-up exercise, Mikako Kotani started the male and female open 2.8-kilometre (km) category, followed by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah starting the runners for the under-12 male and female 1.4km category and the fun run for individuals with different abilities 1.4km. His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Al-Hussein then started the fun run for the male and female veteran 1.4km category and the seminar participant 1.4km category.
The fun run took place following the conclusion of the 2nd OCA Gender Equity Seminar, hosted by Brunei Darussalam, and aimed to instil a sense of community and encourage a healthy lifestyle among participants.
All participants received certificates of participation, while the top 10 finishers received medals presented by OCA Executive Board Members. The 20th edition of the Asian Games is scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4, 2026 in Aichi, Nagoya Prefecture, Japan. – James Kon
