THE International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognises June 23 as Olympic Day and encourages National Olympic Committees from around the world to organise events to enlighten the community about the Olympic Movement and “nurture a spirit of mutual understanding and friendship and to contribute to the construction of a peaceful and better world through sports”.

The Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Sports will organise an Olympic Day event on June 30 from 8.15am at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. President of BDNOC His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah is expected to attend and launch the event.

The event will see numerous activities including sports activities – five a-side football, junior athletics, netball, taekwondo and karatedo. There will be exhibitions on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games organised by the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, Sports Medicine and Research Centre and Brunei Darussalam Anti-Doping Committee.
