BRUNEI Darussalam’s weightlifter Awangku Yusri Amir bin Pengiran Dato Setia Yusof finished in 11th place in the men’s 85kg event at the 18th Asian Games after carrying a total weight of 188kg at the Jakarta International Expo Hall in Jakarta yesterday.

The national athlete successfully lifted 85kg in the snatch but could not improve to 90kg before carrying 100kg in the clean and jerk to produce a combined score of 188kg.

Iraq’s Safaa Rashid Mohmood Aljumaili won gold after carrying a total weight of 361kg including 159kg in the snatch and 202kg in the clean and jerk.

South Korea’s Yeonhak Jang powered his way into the lead with a strong 165kg in the snatch having enjoyed success in all of his attempts.

However, his clean and jerk points allowed Safaa Rashid to catch up and the South Korean only managed to get a silver medal just by a single point after managing a combined weight of 360kg.

North Korea’s Myong Song Jon claimed bronze after carrying a total weight of 348kg with 158kg in the snatch and 190kg in the clean and jerk.
