HER Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah and the Brunei Darussalam national netball team have concluded their Exposure Match Series in Singapore.

Coach Thilaka Jinadasa singled out the last two games of the series, saying the matches against Polytechnic and SRC provided the players with “two oppositions of contrasting styles”.

“The Poly games were easy since they did not have many experienced players in their ranks. It was just students playing.

“So, I had the opportunity to play all my fringe players to test their abilities.

“This gave me a chance to analyse the squad as a whole,” said Thilak, whose team defeated Polytechnic with a resounding 78-26 scoreline.

“The SRC game, however, was much more challenging. They had elite players all over the court.

“It was a good experience for the players who had to come back to win the game by a slim margin (39-37),” Thilak said, paying tribute to the Royal Bees’ “outstanding” defence.

“The defence played outstandingly … unfortunately our shooters were struggling at their end. But it was a good eye opener as I was able identify which players could cope better with pressure.”

“Throughout the series I was able to point out the weaknesses and strengths of our players.

“We will analyse the video footages of the games and work on our drawbacks.

“We have to play more competitive games during the next few months to continue to improve.

“Next month will be very challenging since fasting month would have started, and we would not be able to continue with two sessions training.

“But my intention is to maintain the training rhythm and play friendly matches with local clubs or combined teams.

“We need to continue our momentum if we are to get selected to represent the country at the upcoming SEA Games in August.”
