Yuan Thong Enterprise (YTE) outplayed DMC Enterprise 62-50 in the 1st Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) League last night.

The two teams battled evenly throughout the first three quarters, though DMC Enterprise never led throughout the match at the BBA court in Batu Bersurat. DMC trailed by only one point at 20-19, going into the second quarter. They kept up with YTE and only trailed 35-33 before YTE went on a scoring spree in the third quarter.

YTE ditched their individual plays and worked as a team in the fourth to open their first ten-point cushion of the night. Their effective team play wasn't the only factor that played into their lead as they stepped up their defensive play, making it harder for DMC Enterprise to get hold of the rebounds.

YTE coach Alvin Goh told The Brunei Times that his team wasn't playing as a squad until the final quarter. "In the beginning we tried to mix it up in terms of defence, so we went from zone to zone, man to man and three-two. all sorts just to confuse them," said Goh.

"We did that really effectively and it helped us beat the other team but today there was more individuality than team work. "Only in the fourth quarter were the team playing together," said Goh.

Goh added that the team played much better in the previous games and the squad need to work on teamwork as they have two new players who are still confused on how they are supposed to play. YTE, who lost 77-65 to Mochi-Each-A-Cup (MEAC) in the opening match on June 15, will have another chance at redemption when they lock horns again next Sunday.

Goh knows that their next match will be a big one but feels that it will be an even match. "We have to be on top of our game," noted Goh. YTE's Darren Chai was the only player in his team that hit double digits after scoring a game high of 28 points.

The other match of the night saw Le Doux Patisserie demolish I-Cyber 89-39. Syarikat Bukit Ladang Sdn Bhd will be facing DMC Enterprise at 7pm while I-Cyber are lined up against Le Doux Patisserie at 8.30pm tomorrow. MEAC remain the only unbeaten team in the league after picking up four straight wins.

Their three other wins came against I-Cyber (91-64), Syarikat Bukit Ladang Sdn Bhd (82-53) and DMC Enterprise (70-57).
