Thursday, May 15, 2014

The Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) is set to celebrate the upcoming Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, with a Fun Run in the capital next Sunday.

As part of the campaign to promote the Asian Games, several National Olympic Councils from Asian nations have already carried out activities in each of their respective countries in order to enliven the spirit of Asia's most prestigious sports event ahead of the opening ceremony, stated the Department of Youth and Sports in press release yesterday.

The Asian Games, which like the Olympics is held every four years, kicks off on Sept 19 and will draw to a close on Oct 4 - with approximately 20,000 people ranging from athletes, officials and media expected to be involved in the 17th edition of the multi-sport meet.

The 3km Fun Run will be participated by students from the Sports School, primary schools, athletes, sports associations and others.

The event will start with a warm up session at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar 'Ali Saifuddien field at 7.15 am, to be followed by a Fun Run led by BDNOC President HRH Prince Sufri Bolkiah along designated roads in the capital.

The Fun Run will end at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Shopping Complex.

The Sultanate only sent the lawn bowls team to the competition four years ago in New Delhi, India.
