Thunder still top the Brunei National Lawn Bowls Premier League

The Thunder still sit at the summit of the inaugural Brunei National Lawn Bowls Premier League 2014 after the round two of the tournament on Sunday.

The leaders have collected a maximum of six points after winning all the three categories at the Lawn Bowls Arena of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas. The Thunder got off to a strong start by defeating the Warriors 24-9 in the triples event.

In the pairs event, the Warriors put on a good fight but still lost 21-15 to the Thunder. The Thunder then made it three wins out of three over the Warriors after beating them 25-8 in the single event.

The Lions were the second best team in the league after round two recording five points while the Sabres sit third, also with five points to their name. The other matches in the singles event saw the Panthers defeat the Lions 25-23 while the Tigers made easy work of the Stingrays by beating them 25-10.

Scorpions edged the Jets 25-22 while the Sabres cruised past the Eagles 25-18. Over in the pairs event, the Lions got the better of the Panthers by defeating the latter 21-14.

The Stingrays beat the Tigers 24-12, while the Jets notched their first point of the day by defeating the Scorpions 24-16. The final match of the pair event saw the Sabres thrashed the Eagles 30-16.

The Triple event saw the Lions feast on the Panthers 22-12 while the Tigers defeated the Stingrays 23-10. The Scorpions edged the Jets 17-16 while the final match of the event saw the Sabres beat the Eagles 16-15. The Jets currently sits fourth with four points while the Scorpions and the Panthers sit fifth and six respectively with three points.

The Tigers are seventh and are followed by the Stingrays. Both teams recorded only two points. Meanwhile, the Eagles and the Warriors have yet to record any points in the tournament.

The competition continues today with the third round of the singles and pairs events starting at 7pm. Each round of the tournament comprises one game of singles, one game of pairs and one game of triples. The top four teams after nine rounds will advance into the next phase of the tournament.

The first of its kind tournament kicked off last Tuesday when 30 lawn bowlers separated into 10 teams The Stingrays were the biggest winners after a 28-13 triumph against the Sabres. The Panthers defeated the Scorpions 17-10 while the Lions beat the Tigers 16-10.

The Thunder edged the Eagles 14-13 for the triumph while the Jets and Warriors shared the spoils as their game ended 17-17 after 18 ends.
