Are you up for some chess?

The 30th National Day Chess Festival 2014 will be held on Sunday and Monday at the Brunei Chess Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Organised by the Brunei Chess Federation (BCF), the individual event is open to all players and will be contested according to FIDE (World Chess Federation) rules and regulations.

The format of the tournament is a nine-round Swiss system using the Swiss Manager Programme FIDE rated event.

The two-day competition will be divided into two events - Rapid and Blitz.

The time control for Rapid shall be 15 minutes per player per game while five minutes per player per game for Blitz.

Entry fees for members for the Rapid event is set at $15 for adults, $8 for students (Under-18) and $5 for junior (Under-12).

Non-members are required to pay $30 for adults and an extra $5 on top of the members' price for the other two categories.

The member entry fees for the Blitz event is set at $10 for adults, while students (Under-18) and junior (Under-12) players need to pay $5 and $3 respectively.

Non-members are required to pay $25 for adults.

Another $5 will be added to the members fee for the other two categories.

Registration forms are to be filled in and returned to the organisers together with fees at the competition venue not later than 1.30pm on Sunday.

A total cash prize of $2500 is up for grabs in the competition.

Prizes for the Rapid event will be awarded to the top-eight players, top-three for the students, junior and veteran (50-and-above) age groups as well as the Best School Award (minimum three players per team).

Prizes for Blitz event will be handed out to the top-10 players, top-five for students, junior and veteran age groups as well as the Best School Award (Minimum per team).

The Rapid event will begin at 2.30pm on Sunday and end with the morning session on Monday.

The Blitz event will be contested the same afternoon at 2pm and will end on the same day.
