Brunei Karate Federation (BRUKAF) will organise a national athlete selection for karate at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas today at 8am.

The national karate federation, BRUKAF held the junior national athlete selection on January 24 at the Menglait Sports Complex in Gadong, and this time the selection will only be open to the senior athletes.

"We held the selection for the junior (under-21 year old and below) karatekas last month and 14 karatekas were selected in the process as we preparing for tournaments this year," said national karate coach Hj Okhida Simangasing in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.

"For this Sunday, I will be looking for talented athletes with a very good discipline, very good skill and the most important thing is the one with a very high fighting spirit," said the natinoal coach.

"The selection however does not guarantee them in the national team as they will still be assessed throughout the training camp," he said.

"We will see their commitment, fitness test and other things during the training and decide in the future.

"We have SUKMA (Malaysian Games) this year, and there will be a meeting in Singapore whether karate will be included in the SEA Games in 2015, I hope that karate will be included," he added.

Last year, the national team bagged two medals, one silver and one bronze at the 27th edition of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Myanmar.
