National youth golfer Mohd Qazzri Fakhri Hj Aslimon will tee off in the qualification round of the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, today.

The qualification rounds will be held over two consecutive days followed by the final round on Tuesday.

Mohd Qazzri Fakhri will be taking part in the men's individual stroke play Under-17 category at the Zhongshan International Golf Club.

This will be his second time representing the country this year after taking part in the 53rd South East Asian Amateur Team Golf Championship in the Philippines from June 27-30.

Mohd Qazzri Fakhri has been training under his new coach, Hazel Tan, since the beginning of the year and so far his greatest achievement with her was taking second place in the National Day Cup amateur division after scoring 13-over par 229 in February.

Tan herself is also an accomplished golfer after winning the ladies division at the 2011 Baiduri Masters.

Mohd Qazzri Fakhri's other international participations were the World Junior Golf Championships in Jakarta in 2012 and the 2011 Arafura Games in Darwin.

Among his achievements was winning the Under-18 (Junior) category during the 10th Charity Golf Championship Challenge Trophy for the Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Charity Golf Tournament in 2011.

National fencers Mohd Haziq Asahrin and Muhd Anaqi Danish Asahrin are scheduled to take part in the men's sabre event tomorrow.

The duo will be competing at the Nanjing International Expo Centre.
