Ahmad Taufiq Murni is through to the last-32 of the Labuan 9-Ball International Championship Open 2013.

The national cueist received a bye in the first round before dispatching compatriot Jong Wee Lee to advance to the next round at David's Pool in Labuan.

He will face Daus of Labuan today and he is looking forward to the matchup.

"So far everything is okay. I just need to adjust more to the tables because the bounce off the cushion is too fast," said Taufiq in an interview with The Brunei Times yesterday.

"I don't know about my next opponent but I will just play my game," he said.

Seven other Bruneians are also through to the next round.

Despite losing, Jong is also through and will face fellow Bruneian Jumain Wahab while Randy Wong is set to tackle Sabah's Thien Fen Kian.

Mohd Khalid Abu Bakar will go up against Chu Siew Pin of Labuan while Lim Charng Hui will go head-to-head against Sarawak's David Tan.

Hj Md Alirani Hj Besar is also through and will take on Shearer Chiew of Sabah while Pg Anak Hj Abdul Awadi ZH Pg Anak Hj Latifuddin will take on Mike Thay of Sarawak.

A total of 10 Bruneians are at the July 9-12 competition with the quartet of Taufiq, Pg Ank Hj Abdul Awadi and Hj Md Alirani and Mohd Qusyairi Zainuddin playing under the Brunei Cue Sports Association.

The last-32, quarter-finals and semi-finals will be race to 9. The final will be a race to 11.

The tournament offers a cash prize of RM2,000 and a trophy for the champion.

The runner-up will get RM1,000 and a trophy while semi-finalists will be awarded RM500 and a trophy.

The quarter-finalists will bring home RM250 and a trophy.
