Tuesday, May 28, 2013

The Brunei Darussalam Athletics Association (BAA) joined the world in celebrating World Athletics Day last Sunday.

The celebration was held at the Tanjong Maya Seconday School in Tutong, where about 150 athletes aged between 13 and 17-years-old took part in the meet.

According to a press release issued by BAA yesterday, the meet was divided into two categories; the first an individual competition for athletes aged 16 to 17-years-old from clubs and schools.

The second was a team competition for athletes aged 13 to 15-years-old.

The World Athletics Day celebration is part of the International Association of Athletics Federation's (IAAF) annual programme and activities, and is implemented by member federations in each country - with this year marking the 18th edition of the meet.

BAA decided to hold the competition in Tutong as part of its objective to promote athletics throughout the state.
