The female national softball team will feature five new faces when they launch their Malaysia Open campaign in Johor Baru next week.

The new additions to the squad chosen during the trials on February 24 include Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bulqiah.

They complete the 18-member team that will depart on Wednesday for the April 11-14 competition.

National softball coach Abdul Kani Sapian said that the squad have and will continue to run an intense training regiment leading up to their departure date.

The coach went on to tell The Brunei Times that the Malaysia Open will serve as exposure and preparation for any upcoming international softball competitions.

"Right now, (during practice) we are working on the offensive side of the game," said the coach.

"We are lucky that the Department of Youth and Sports allowed us to use this field for our training," he said.

"(At present) we are probably around the 85 per cent mark to being ready," he added.

"We might have a practice game against one of the local teams but (if that does not happen) we might have to play against the men's national team."

Brunei will be going up against Terengganu Sukma, Pahang and Perak during the four-day competition.
