Host of events planned for Olympic Day

To mark the revival of modern Olympics on June 23, 1894 in Athens, the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BNOC) will host a numerous sporting activities.

Organised in cooperation with the Department of Youth and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, two events will be held on two days to mark the Olympic Day 2010, celebrated annually on June 23.

First is the "Mini Sports Festival", which will be held tomorrow at the VIP parking lot of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

Open to all, especially children from 6 to 14 years old, a total of seven events will be held from 3pm to 5pm: 'Mini Basketball', 'Mini Golf', 'Mini Tennis', 'Mini Table Tennis', 'Mini Hockey', 'Rowing' and 'Athletics'.

The main event however will be the Olympic Day Run from the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex to the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, which will be held on Sunday, June 20.

Open to all six categories, the race has been divided inot many categories: Men's under-15-year-old, women's under-15-year-old, men's under-49-year-old, men's 50-year-old and above, women's Open and athletes with special needs.

President of BNOC His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, who is expected to officiate both events, is also likely to take part in the 50 above category run.
