Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) is looking for a new pool of athletes.
They will be looking to launch both the Youth Activation Programme and Athlete Leadership Programmes (ALPS) on Sunday at the Bolkiah Stadium of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Headquarters in Gadong.
The former is to open up various sports and activities to all interested youth, with or without intellectual disabilities, to encourage unity and leadership qualities.
The sports that are being offered are bocce, bowling, equestrian and football as well as the new additions of basketball, swimming and other games.
As for ALPs, it is targeted at training special kids to become leaders.
SOBD is looking at getting the youth with intellectual disabilities to speak up in public to share their success stories.
It will also in turn lead to developing leadership.
The launch will be held from 9am - 3pm with different booths to be set up and SOBD are encouraging all students as well as parents to attend.
They are also looking at getting volunteers to help out with future events.
SOBD have had success in sports in recent years and their biggest achievement to date is the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2011 in Athens where they returned with their haul of three gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
